How small-scale broiler farming works

  • Free lesson

You buy day-old broiler chicks, raise them for about six weeks, and sell them live to people who slaughter them for their own use.

One batch, step by step

  1. Clean and prepare the house; warm the brooder before chicks arrive.
  2. Days 0 to 21: starter feed, warmth and close watching.
  3. Weeks 4 to 5: grower feed. Week 6: finisher feed.
  4. Sell live birds at about six weeks.
  5. Clean out and rest the house before the next batch.

Who buys: families, events, funerals, street-food sellers and neighbours.

A good sign: your first batch sold with deaths under 5%.

Do it now

Tick it off when it is done. Your ticks are saved on this device.

Quick check

Pick an answer to see how you did.

In a typical case, how long until the first money comes in?

Your challenge

Check it before you spend

Cost one batch of 50: chicks, feed, heating, vaccines.

You are done when:

  • You wrote down what you found
  • You know whether to carry on or adjust

You report this yourself. Nobody checks, so it only counts if you really did it.
