How bulk buying for a group works

You collect orders and money from a group, buy in bulk at a wholesaler, and hand out the goods on a set day. You add a small, open handling fee for your time and transport.

How it works

  1. Make a price list from your wholesaler.
  2. Members order and pay before a cut-off date.
  3. You buy, transport and hand out on collection day.
  4. You share a record of every rand in and out.

Grocery stokvels work in a similar way: NASASA describes members saving monthly and buying groceries in bulk at year end.

A good sign: a first pre-paid order delivered and every member happy with the record.

Do it now

Tick it off when it is done. Your ticks are saved on this device.

Quick check

Pick an answer to see how you did.

In a typical case, how long until the first money comes in?

Your challenge

Check it before you spend

List 15 items your group buys every month and compare supermarket and wholesale prices.

You are done when:

  • You wrote down what you found
  • You know whether to carry on or adjust

You report this yourself. Nobody checks, so it only counts if you really did it.
