How e-hailing driving works

  • Lesson 1 of 23
  • 5 min read
  • Free lesson

Riders book a trip in an app. You accept, drive them, and the app collects the fare, keeps its share and pays you the rest.

What you need

  • A driving licence and a professional driving permit (PrDP).
  • A car that meets the app's rules, either yours or rented.
  • An operating licence for the car.
  • A smartphone with data.

The steps to your first paid trip

  1. Apply for your PrDP.
  2. Choose your car: own, rent or drive for a fleet owner.
  3. Sign up on the app and upload documents.
  4. Pass the safety screening.
  5. Go online at busy times.

A good sign: you know your cost per kilometre before you accept trips.

Do it now

Tick it off when it is done. Your ticks are saved on this device.

Quick check

Pick an answer to see how you did.

In a typical case, how long until the first money comes in?

Your challenge

Check it before you spend

Work out weekly costs: rental or car payment, fuel, insurance, app fee.

You are done when:

  • You wrote down what you found
  • You know whether to carry on or adjust

You report this yourself. Nobody checks, so it only counts if you really did it.
