How an event photography business works

  • Lesson 1 of 23
  • 5 min read
  • Free lesson

Clients book you for a set number of hours, you photograph the event, then edit and deliver an online gallery within an agreed time.

Who books

  • Birthdays, baby showers and kids' parties.
  • Church events, school functions and memorials.
  • Small business launches and corporate functions.

The steps to your first paid booking

  1. Build a portfolio from three events (family, friends or church).
  2. Set two or three packages by hours and photos.
  3. Write a simple booking agreement with a deposit.
  4. Share your portfolio and ask for referrals.

A good sign: guests from one event book you for their own.

Quick check

Pick an answer to see how you did.

In a typical case, how long until the first money comes in?

Your challenge

Check it before you spend

Shoot two events for friends at cost to build a portfolio.

You are done when:

  • You wrote down what you found
  • You know whether to carry on or adjust

You report this yourself. Nobody checks, so it only counts if you really did it.
