Work shifts handing out samples in shops, running activations, ushering at events and staffing stands, booked through agencies and apps.

Who it suits

Friendly, high-energy people who like talking to strangers, can stand for hours and want flexible weekend money.

Who pays

Promotions agencies, event companies and brands running in-store activations.

What they get

Brands and events need reliable, friendly people for a day.

Is there demand?

A 2026 SA staffing app lists promoter and brand ambassador shifts at about R350 to R750 a day, usually asking for an SA ID and matric (ShiftMate). An SA guide puts entry-level promoters at R50 to R80 an hour and experienced ones at R100 to R150 (Entrepreneur Hub SA). The Employment Services Act does not allow agencies to charge you a fee to find work.

In a typical case, how long until the first money comes in?

Your challenge

Check it before you spend

Register with two agencies or apps that do not charge you a fee.

You are done when:

  • You wrote down what you found
  • You know whether to carry on or adjust

You report this yourself. Nobody checks, so it only counts if you really did it.
