You clean homes for several clients, usually one client per day or half-day, every week or every two weeks.
Two ways to start
- Through an app such as SweepSouth: the app finds clients and handles payment, and keeps a share of each booking.
- Private clients: you agree the rate and days directly, usually through referrals.
- Extra services that pay more
move-in and move-out cleans, deep cleans, ironing, and cleaning holiday rentals between guests.
- Employed or self-employed?
If one household employs you on a regular basis, you're a domestic worker with the right to at least the minimum wage, UIF and leave. If you run your own cleaning service for several clients, you're self-employed and agree your terms with each client.
A good sign: your first paid clean within two to three weeks.
