How dog walking and pet sitting works

  • Lesson 1 of 23
  • 5 min read
  • Free lesson

You look after people's pets so the animals stay happy and safe while owners work or travel.

Four services you can offer

  • Dog walks: 30 to 60 minutes, solo or a small group.
  • Drop-in visits: feed, fresh water, play, litter or garden clean-up.
  • Overnight sitting: stay in the owner's home while they're away.
  • Day care: a dog stays with you, or you stay with it, for the day.

Who pays: people who work long hours, families going on holiday, older owners who can't walk far, and owners of puppies or anxious dogs.

A good sign: a first paid walk or visit for a neighbour within two weeks.

Do it now

Tick it off when it is done. Your ticks are saved on this device.

Quick check

Pick an answer to see how you did.

In a typical case, how long until the first money comes in?

Your challenge

Check it before you spend

Offer three trial walks to neighbours.

You are done when:

  • You wrote down what you found
  • You know whether to carry on or adjust

You report this yourself. Nobody checks, so it only counts if you really did it.
