How reselling works (and why to start with your own stuff)

Reselling is simple: sell things people want for more than they cost you. The fastest, lowest-risk start is selling what you already own and don't use.

Stage 1: your own stuff. Clothes, shoes, books, baby gear, a phone in a drawer, kitchen things. No money at risk, and you learn how listings, buyers and couriers work.

Stage 2: sourced stock. Once you know what sells, you buy pre-loved items cheaply (charity shops, sales, family clear-outs) and resell them. Now there's risk: you've spent money upfront.

Why it suits many people

  • You can do it all on a phone
  • It works in towns and rural areas too, with couriers like PAXI or Pargo
  • Money can come in within days, especially from your own items

What it isn't: a get-rich scheme. Margins depend on buying well, and unsold stock ties up cash. This guide keeps you in Stage 1 until the numbers show Stage 2 makes sense.

Why start with your own items?

Your challenge

Find 15

Do a 20-minute sweep of your cupboards and list 15 items you could sell.

You are done when:

  • 15 items listed in your notes
  • Each has a rough condition note (new, like new, used)

You report this yourself. Nobody checks, so it only counts if you really did it.
