How a school transport service works

  • Lesson 1 of 23

  • Free lesson

You collect learners from home or a pick-up point, drive them to school, and bring them back in the afternoon. Parents pay a monthly fee in advance.

What the law asks for (summary)

  • An operating licence for scholar transport from your provincial regulatory entity.
  • A professional driving permit (PrDP) for every driver.
  • A contract with the school, or a letter from the principal.
  • A teacher or other responsible adult in the vehicle when carrying primary or pre-primary children.

The steps to a first route

  1. Check your province's requirements and start your applications.
  2. Get the vehicle roadworthy and insured.
  3. Sign up parents with written agreements.
  4. Run the route safely, every school day.

A good sign: a full vehicle, parents paying on time, and no missed days.

Do it now

Tick it off when it is done. Your ticks are saved on this device.

Quick check

Pick an answer to see how you did.

In a typical case, how long until the first money comes in?

Your challenge

Check it before you spend

Ask ten parents at one school what they pay and what frustrates them now.

You are done when:

  • You wrote down what you found
  • You know whether to carry on or adjust

You report this yourself. Nobody checks, so it only counts if you really did it.
