Short paid contracts: fruit picking and packing, festive-season shop and warehouse work, stock-takes, exam invigilating and census-style fieldwork.

Who it suits

People who want paid work quickly, can do set shifts for a few weeks, and are happy with physical or routine work.

Who pays

Farms and pack houses, retailers, warehouses and labour brokers in busy seasons.

What they get

Employers need extra hands for a few weeks at a time.

Is there demand?

Harvest assistant, picker and festive-season adverts appear on Careers24 and job boards each season; recent seasonal farm adverts list about R5,250 to R6,500 a month. The national minimum wage is R30.23 an hour from 1 March 2026 (Department of Employment and Labour).

In a typical case, how long until the first money comes in?

Your challenge

Check it before you spend

Apply for five seasonal jobs from real employers, none that ask for a fee.

You are done when:

  • You wrote down what you found
  • You know whether to carry on or adjust

You report this yourself. Nobody checks, so it only counts if you really did it.
