How international software freelancing works

  • Lesson 1 of 23
  • 5 min read
  • Free lesson

You build websites, apps, scripts or fixes for clients overseas, usually as a contractor. You work remotely and invoice in their currency.

Where the work comes from

  • Freelance platforms such as Upwork.
  • Developer marketplaces such as OfferZen, and remote job boards.
  • Direct referrals from people you have worked with.

The steps to a first contract

  1. Pick one narrow offer, for example "fix and speed up WordPress sites" or "build React dashboards".
  2. Build two or three small public projects that prove it.
  3. Set up a payment route that can receive foreign money.
  4. Send targeted proposals every weekday.

A good sign: your first paid contract, finished on time, with a written review.

Your challenge

Check it before you spend

Apply to 10 contracts matching your strongest stack.

You are done when:

  • You wrote down what you found
  • You know whether to carry on or adjust

You report this yourself. Nobody checks, so it only counts if you really did it.
