Persuader
You are comfortable asking, negotiating and moving people to a decision.
Persuaders add value by getting a yes: a sale, a booking, a signed deal. Almost every side income eventually depends on someone doing this, which is why people who are comfortable asking are rare and well paid. The risk is the opposite of the builder's: promising more than can be delivered, or starting many things and finishing few.
Signs this might be you
- You enjoy negotiating, even for small things.
- You are the one who phones the supplier when everyone else sends an email.
- Rejection stings briefly, then you move on.
Tendency is not proof
Liking people is not the same as persuading them. Proof is having sold something to a stranger, hit a target, or closed a deal. If you have that, you already have the hardest skill in starting any business.
Where Persuaders tend to earn
Sales roles, commission work, running a service business, deal-making and marketing.
Opportunities in our database that draw mainly on this mode:

Where it is the supporting mode:
- Selling on Amazon.co.za Marketplace
- No-code and AI automation for small businesses
- Bookkeeping for small businesses
- Selling products on Takealot Marketplace
- User-generated content (UGC) for brands
- Websites for small businesses
A cheap first test
Find a local business with a product you believe in and ask whether you can sell it for commission for two weeks. Track how many conversations it takes to get one sale. That number tells you whether this is viable for you.
The usual mistake
Taking on work you cannot deliver well, or relying on charm instead of a repeatable process (scripts, follow-ups, a simple tracking sheet).
Friction to plan for
Detail-heavy delivery, admin and slow-burn projects with no visible progress. It often pairs well with Organise or a partner who delivers, so promises are kept.
In South Africa
Commission-only "opportunities" in South Africa include legitimate sales roles and also MLM schemes. If you have to pay to join or buy stock to qualify, read our MLM caution first.
This is part of Earn Path's own framework, not a validated psychometric test. Your money, time, connectivity and willingness to sell carry more weight in your matches than your profile does.
