Job to online skills translator
Who it is for
It is for people who have worked in a physical job, such as retail, teaching, nursing, admin, hospitality or a call centre, and want to earn online. It also helps if you are unemployed and not sure your experience counts.
Most people have more sellable skills than they think, and this shows where they fit online.
How it works
Each job maps to the skills it most often builds: a teacher has teaching, English and admin; a call centre agent has customer service and sales. The tool then looks through our researched database of online income options and remote roles for ones that need those skills.
Results are sorted by how many of your skills match, then by lowest start-up cost. Every option links to its full page with costs, time to first income, risks and sources.
Worked example
A former retail cashier has selling, customer service and spoken English.
The tool shows remote customer support and sales roles first, then options such as social media help for small shops. Each lists what it costs to start and whether a phone is enough.
Tips before you rely on it
- Start with the skill people already ask you for help with. It is often the easiest to sell.
- Make one small sample of the online version of your work, such as a lesson plan, a short article or a cleaned-up spreadsheet.
- Look at three people already doing that work online. Note what they charge and how they describe it.
- Tell people in your network what you now offer. Most first clients come from people who already know you.

Questions people ask
My job is not listed. What should I pick?
Choose the closest one, or take the free test, which asks about your skills one by one.
Do I need a qualification?
Most options here need proof you can do the work, like samples or references, more than certificates. Regulated work such as tax advice is the exception.
Where do the options come from?
From our own research database, which we review regularly. Each page lists its sources and when it was last checked.
Is this a job offer?
No. These are directions to explore. We do not list vacancies.
Can I earn online with experience from a physical job?
Yes. Retail, hospitality and call centre work all build customer service and selling skills that remote employers and small businesses pay for.
How do I prove my skills to online clients?
Make two or three samples of the work, collect a short reference from a past employer or customer, and describe results in numbers where you can.
